FUJI (1930’s, Fujisaki, Japan)

This iconic apple has both a Japanese heritage and a U.S. genetic pedigree. The Fuji apple was developed by growers at the Tohoku Research Station in Japan, and is a cross of two American apple varieties: Red Delicious and Virginia Ralls Janet. Introduced into the United States in the 1960’s, this variety has become one of the most popular apples in our country. The Fuji is sweet, with a dense flesh and excellent storage qualities. One Fuji apple can give you as much as 15% of your daily requirement of vitamin C.
